Frequently Asked Questions
What is 5050OCF?
5050OCF is an online sponsorship event with an ambitious goal to raise €150k to keep the Barrett’s Oesophagus Registry & Bio Bank and The Neo Aegis Clinical Trial an Irish-led, international cancer trial going. Fundraisers can participate any which way they like to be active: walk, jog, cycle, dance or skip the distance of 50kms for OCF during the month of October
When is it happening?
Once you register, you can start fundraising straight away, even though the challenge officially starts on October 1st and runs through the month.
Is there a participation fee?
No, this event is free for all, simply sign up to JustGiving or log in to your JustGiving account where you can create your personalised sponsorship page in a matter of minutes.
What is JustGiving?
JustGiving is a trusted online fundraising platform that makes it easy to co-ordinate ambitious charitable events like this, and for sponsors anywhere in the world to contribute. Online donations are paid directly to OCF each week, so your participation starts making a difference immediately.
Do I have to be super-fit to take part?
No way. In fact, we know how hard it is to stay motivated to exercise so we're hoping that 5050OCF, as well as providing vital funds for a vital cancer trial & research, will give the less-than-super-sporty a fun way to improve their general health and wellbeing. And of course, regular runners, walkers and cyclists can take it all in their stride.
Is there an age limit?
No, anyone and everyone is welcome to participate, and we hope the challenge is flexible enough to allow even the youngest and oldest members of our brilliant OCF community to take part.
Can I track mileage on my sponsorship page?
Yes, you can track the distance you've covered so far as it happens, by linking your Fitbit or Strava apps to your JustGiving page. And if you don’t use either of these apps, or if you forget to use them one time, don't fret – you can always manually add the mileage to your page instead.
Can I create a team to take part in 5050OCF?
Of course! Once you have created your personal JustGiving page, you can follow the steps to create a JustGiving team page, which means that friends or family who also wish to participate can join your team during the registration process.
How do I invite other people to join my team?
Once you have set up a team, you’re automatically made the Team Leader, which means you can invite people to join, just as soon as they set up their own page, which is super easy to do.
How can you help me publicise my challenge?
If you send us pictures or stories from your or your team's 5050OCF journey, we will share them across all our OCF social media channels. Also, as soon as you sign up, we will send you a Virtual Pack with downloadable 5050OCF signage, milestone badges and social-media-friendly artwork so you can jazz up your Facebook, Twitter or Instagram timelines.
What happens at the end of my challenge?
When you have finished your challenge, if you agree in advance, you'll be celebrated across the OCF social media channels, the money you raised will automatically come to us via JustGiving, and you will receive an official Certificate of Completion from us.
How can I contact other participants taking part in the challenge?
Join our closed 5050OCF group on Facebook and keep up to date with all the latest chat, get inspiration and ideas or share details of setbacks or hiccups in a friendly, supportive environment. Simply search 5050OCF Facebook group in Facebook and request to join.
Is there a fundraising target I need to meet as an individual?
Not at all, set whatever target you feel comfortable achieving and know that any amount you raise will be going directly to help OCF reach our fundraising goal for 2021, enabling us to continue funding our crucial, screening, treatment and research programmes.
But don't sell yourself short either – this is an impressive commitment you're making, for a very worthy cause, so don't underestimate how generously your friends and family will respond.
Can I submit money that has been raised offline?
The JustGiving platform is easy to use and helps us keep track of our progress toward our €150k goal, but of course, you can still do it the old-fashioned way and send us the sponsorship money you raise via another channel visit: https://www.ocf.ie/donate/
